Peru is a country with a wide diversity, not just in its ecology, but also in its range of indigenous culture. The locals have seen in and around Pisac where the tourists tend to overstay their visas, that they can preserve their local traditions by teaching and sharing with the eager people from outside the country. This is healing the relationship between the indigenous, who still feel the pains and sorrows inflicted by the conquistadores, and the white man. The tourists are interested in seeing the bright colors of their regalia, or watching the elderly women weave the fibers together. However, this is just one of the cultural identities found in peru, these are the Quechua People.
Same is seen with the tourists in the jungle regions of Iquitos- Cultural Preservation, brought on by the tourists' curiosity. The jungle region is full of Shipibo women dressed in their regalia walking the streets selling their art made from jungle seeds. These are the two communities that tourists are most familiar with; however, there are many more that deserve a voice, who are eagerly looking for a way to inspire their youth to hold onto their cultural identity.
Mama Jungle's Refugio is dedicated to helping the indigenous, by providing fair trade opportunities for their goods and products. Many art and textiles are done in women's groups within indigenous villages, while their agricultural goods are done by the men and young boys in the families. The unfair political system keeps agriculturalists in poverish conditions, and suppresses women completely, by helping the villagers sell their products in the USA, we are providing organic, fair trade products and opportunities for the people.
